South of Italy

Image rotatorImage rotator

The climate in the south is similar to that of North Africa, with intense summer heat and mild, often rainy, winters.

Spring and autumn are mild with fine, sunny weather. Winter in the south is much drier and warmer than in northern and central areas.

In the Mediterranean region, which includes all the southern areas of Italy,   rain falls more often in winter while the summer months become dry and hot.

The heat of summer is usually moderated on the coast by daytime sea breezes, but the nights can occasionally be warm and even humid.

The least number of rainy days and the highest number of hours of sunshine occur in the extreme south of the mainland and in Sicily and Sardinia.

Sicily, island in the sun and the place where the mountains meet the sea, is home to Heavenly beaches and majestic mountains. Spring here is a rainbow of wild flowers set against greenest fields and summer is amber land under a sky of blue.

Winter in Sicily is full of contrasts finding palm trees dusted with snow in a surreal symphony.

Sardinia is a second only to Sicily in size among all Mediterranean Islands. The sea around Sardinia is among the most beautiful and transparent in all the world. With miles and miles of pristine beaches it is said to be a land like no other.

Unlike many parts of Italy, the main attractions here are not jewel-like towns or world-class museums. What you come to see is right in front of your eyes every minute of the day....
